Has Died at The Age of 95.
Born EUGENE MERILL DEITCH,was born in Chicago but moved to Prague in 1959 after what was only supposed to be a 10 day visit. But he fell in love with his future wife ''Zdenka'' and stayed in ''Czechoslovakian Capital.''
He directed 13 episodes of Tom & Jerry and several episodes of series popeye.
The Animator and Illustrator won the academy award for the best animated short film for Munro in 1960.
In Sydneys Familly Tree which was nominated for academy award in 1958, GENE was the co-producer.
Gene was nominated for the same award twice in 1964 for his movies Here's Nudnik and how to avoid friendship.
He was presented with the winsor mccay award for his lifelong contribution to animation in 2004.
The oscar winning illustrator died on thursday night (April 16) according to reports, he was found in his apartment in prague.
Speaking to the associated press,PETR HIMMEL his czec publisher said he died ''unexpected''
The film director and producer was last seen in his apartment in the litter quater neighbourhood.
Cartoon Brew said ''Acording to a familly friend and neighbour,the cause of his death was not Corona virus. Deitch had not been sick, he had complained about intestinal problems in the days before his passin.
Fans have been paying tribute to him on social media. with one fan saying on twitter: ''Thank you sir GENE DEITCH, for making our childhood so fun, i believe future generations will be loving the show.
He is survived by his wife and three sons from his first marriage. The children all followed his footsteps and work as Cartoonists and illustrators.
